KEPALA BATAS, Nov 14 — Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican who will be defending the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat said his priority is to win by a bigger margin to ensure BN form a more stable government.
Though he did not want to brag or beat his chest about his chances in defending the seat for the third term during the 15th General Election (GE15), Reezal Merican is confident that voters in his constituency (Kepala Batas) would give him the mandate to continue serving as their MP.
“I want my victory in Kepala Batas to be more convincing to send a signal to Putrajaya that we in Kepala Batas strongly support the formation of a trully stable government that can ensure the welfare and wellbeing of the rakyat,” he told reporters after a session with the media at Wisma UMNO in Kepala Batas, here today.
Reezal Merican who is the Housing and Local Government Minister said the emergence of young voters in the GE15 would play an important, if not a vital role, in choosing who will win the respective seats.
“All voters are important but I feel the young voters might make a difference because youths can vote at the age of 18 for the first time in the history of the country’s election. The critical voters are those aged between 18 and 25, as these group can decide who will win the GE15, including in Kepala Batas,” he said.
Reezal Merican who is also the Kepala Batas UMNO division chief said he has pledged to give 30 per cent of the allocation for the parliamentary constituency for development programmes involving women.
In the GE15, Reezal Merican will face a four-cornered fight against Danial Abdul Majeed from Pakatan Harapan, Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad (PN) and Hamidi Abu Hassan (Pejuang).
