KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — The Barisan Nasional letter that gave support to Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister was not a decision made by consensus in the BN Supreme Council meeting yesterday.
MCA secretary-general, Datuk Chong Sin Woon in a statement today said on the other hand, the BN Supreme Council maintained its stand of not supporting any party for the time being.
“What happened in the BN Supreme Council meeting last night, MCA and BN component parties questioned Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s actions which were seen as clearly contradicting what was decided by the BN Supreme Council.
“At first he tried to deny the letter but admitted it after one of the members of the BN Supreme Council presented authentic evidence,” he said.
He said the letter submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah clearly violated the ruling made by the BN Supreme Council, and was seen as presenting the wrong information to His Majesty.
Therefore, according to him, MCA believes that Ahmad Zahid is no longer fit to lead the coalition as chairman.
He said MCA once again urged him to resign honourably and be replaced by BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan as suggested in the BN Supreme Council meeting last night.
Earlier, a letter dated yesterday with the BN letterhead signed by Ahmad Zahid went viral expressing full confidence and support for Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister in the formation of the government by informing that the letter was agreed upon during the BN Supreme Council meeting yesterday.
