JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 3 — The Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah has said that no party should use the logo or name of the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (YKTLJ) for commercial purposes.
In a post on The Royal Johor Facebook page, Raja Zarith Sofiah expressed her hope to be able to execute her role as YKTLJ chairman.
“As the mother of the late Tunku Laksamana Johor (Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim), I hope I can fulfil my duty as chairman of this foundation.
“The late (Tunku Laksamana Johor) and our family intend to help Johoreans who need cancer treatment.
“I will try to safeguard YKTLJ’s good name and I do not want any party to use its logo or name for commercial gain,” she said at the foundation’s ‘Rays of Light’ charity dinner at the Persada Johor international convention centre, here last night.
The posting also informed that the charity event has successfully collected RM1.002 million which will be used to carry out YKTLJ activities.
The Permaisuri of Johor also said that since its inception six years ago, YKTLJ had helped 3,078 cancer patients with treatment and assistance amounting to RM10.2 million.
“In addition, this foundation also encourages efforts to improve the facilities of several hospitals in Johor for the comfort of cancer fighters when undergoing the treatment process.
“A total of RM1.78 million has been used to improve the facilities for cancer fighters in Johor and it has benefited more than 100,000 people,” said Raja Zarith Sofiah.
Tunku Abdul Jalil died on Dec 5, 2015 at the age of 25 after battling with liver cancer.
On Aug 6, 2016, the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar launched YKTLJ to help cancer patients in the state.
