KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 — Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today opened the first session of International Islamic University Malaysia’s (IIUM) 38th convocation ceremony.
Tunku Hajah Azizah who is also the constitutional head of IIUM, when delivering her royal address extended her congratulations to all the IIUM graduates and award recipients at the ceremony.
“I hope that the excellence of knowledge achieved today will be a beacon that lights up your lives,” said her Majesty at the ceremony held at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) Main Hall.
At the convocation, Tunku Hajah Azizah also presented an honorary doctorate to SME Corp Malaysia chairman Datuk Seri Syed Hussien Abd Kadir Al Hashee in recognition of his contribution to the country.
Her Majesty also presented the Ibn Khaldun Merit Award for Global Social Transformation to Dr Amira Eifadil, the Director of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) which has been sharing its knowledge and expertise with IIUM for a long time.
According to an IIUM statement, ICESCO is an international non-profit organisation that specialises in the fields of Islamic education, science and culture.
Meanwhile, two persons with disabilities, namely Muhammad Weeldan Md Fauzi and Ahmad Aimannaim Roslan, were among the 223 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) recipients at the convocation.
The visually impaired Muhammad Weeldan also bagged the Abdullah Ibnu Ummi Maktum Special Achievement Award (Academic) while Ahmad Aimannaim who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) received the Amru Ibn Al-Jamuh Special Achievement Award (Co-Curricular).
