PUTRAJAYA, Dec 12 — Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, as the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy, will lead the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-European Union (EU) Commemorative Summit being held for the first time in Brussels, Belgium, on Dec 14.

The summit is expected to discuss ASEAN-EU relations as well as cooperation in the areas of political security, economic and socio-cultural, climate change, food security, and sustainable development, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

On Dec 13, Zambry is scheduled to attend a C-Suite Luncheon organised by the EU-ASEAN Business Council for an engagement session with business leaders in Europe. He will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Liew Chin Tong and senior MITI officials.

The Wisma Putra statement said Malaysia and the EU are also scheduled to sign a Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement on the sidelines of the summit.

The agreement aims to enhance ties in various fields including political relations, trade and investment, energy, transport, agriculture, finance, and maritime.

Zambry is also scheduled to hold meetings with counterparts from ASEAN and the EU to exchange views on various bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.

“Malaysia’s participation in this Commemorative Summit reflects Malaysia’s commitment to strengthen the ASEAN-EU dialogue relationship.

“It is also an opportunity for Malaysia to share views on issues of strategic importance,” according to the statement.

The Foreign Minister will also host a dinner for Malaysians in Belgium.
