PETALING JAYA, Dec 15 — The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah conferred awards to seven outstanding youth in conjunction with the Selangor Youth Community (SAY) Fifth Year Anniversary Gala tonight. 

The fifth-anniversary of the non-governmental organisation (NGO), which was established in 2017, was themed “Celebrating Achievements, Shaping Champions”.

The seven gongs presented were the inaugural Raja Muda Selangor Youth Award, Best Youth Organisation Award, SAY Leadership Award (Arts and Creative), SAY Leadership Award (Sports & Wellness), SAY Leadership Award (Entrepreneurship), SAY Leadership Award (Community Service) and Best Team Participant Award.

Former acting president of the Malaysian Youth Council  Mohammad Syafiq Ridzwan Jamaluddin won the Raja Muda Selangor Youth Award, while Adab Youth Garage took home the Best Youth Organisation Award for their efforts in focusing on providing access to education and opportunities for youth at low-cost housing areas.

The SAY Leadership Award for the four categories went to Dhiyaul M. Asyraf (Arts & Creative); Daphne Ng Chiew Yen (Sports & Wellness); Jason Fung (Entrepreneurship); and Hairul Abdullah (Community Service); while Izzah Ezureen Mohamed Yusoff walked away with the Best Team Participant Award.

Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Selangor State Public Health, Unity, Women and Family Development Committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and SAY chief executive officer Nurul Azwa Rodzi.

The event also saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SAY and the ASEAN Foundation on the strategic partnership, through the Belia Juara Seed Funding initiative, aimed at empowering youth in ASEAN countries to champion local issues.
