KUANTAN, Dec 29 — The Pahang Perikatan Nasional (PN) today announced 18 focus portfolios for its 17 elected representatives to mirror and monitor the roles of the 10 state executive councillors appointed on Dec 2.

State PN chairman Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said this is an initiative by the coalition to play a role as a quality and constructive opposition in the state and improve its services to the people.

“These portfolios aim to shadow the works carried out by the Exco members in addition to playing a check and balance role against them.

“Each PN assemblyman has one or two portfolios, and they will play a role by leading discussions on their respective portfolios, including complaints received from the people,” he told reporters after chairing a Special PN Assemblymen and MPs Meeting here.

He said the Pahang PN would also appoint a parliamentary and state constituency coordinator for the constituencies they lost in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have agreed to cooperate to form a state government in Pahang after the GE15 results led to a hung state assembly as no party commanded a simple majority of 22 seats.

In GE15, BN and PN won 17 seats each, while PH won eight.
