IPOH, Feb 3 — After Ipoh, Kampar and Batu Gajah are now on the Perak government’s radar as the next districts to enjoy 5G access.
State Communications, Multimedia and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi said the initiative under ‘Greater Ipoh’ will be monitored by a special committee that will ensure the implementation of 5G technology runs smoothly.
“So far, 5G coverage includes the city centre, Klebang, Bercham, Tambun, Canning Garden, Ipoh Garden, Meru, Ampang, Gunung Rapat and Pasir Puteh.
“We have been informed work progress has reached 42 per cent where 86 locations out of 208 have been fully completed.
“In fact, we expect 80 per cent by the end of this year and for Kampar and Batu Gajah to enjoy 5G access after that,” he told a media conference after a 5G network briefing and a visit to the Ipoh Integrated Operations Center (IIOC) at the Perak Urban Transformation Center (UTC) near here.
Ipoh is now the fifth city after Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Johor Bahru and the first in the Northern Region to have 5G access with a speed of up to 1GB per second as a result of the 5G Greater Ipoh 5G team.
