SERI KEMBANGAN, Feb 16 – The Malaysia Halal Expo 2023, which focuses on strengthening the domestic halal market, aims to generate RM3 million to RM5 million in potential sales in the three-day event from Sept 1-3, 2023.

Organising chairman and HQC Commerce Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Khairul Shahril Hamzah said the inaugural event will accommodate 300 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for them to promote their products and services and gain exposure and knowledge to access global markets.

“This event aims to strengthen domestic SMEs which are the backbone of our economy.“I believe that by bringing all of this together under one roof, this event will be a significant milestone for Malaysia’s halal industry as the government agencies will be available to support and facilitate the industry,” he told reporters after the soft launch and press conference of Malaysia Halal Expo 2023.

He said during the event, there will be government agencies to help the SMEs, such as the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) to help them explore the export market and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia for halal certification. The Halal Development Corporation Bhd will touch on nurturing the halal industry and the Malaysia Productivity Corporation will provide guidance on innovation and productivity.

The expo, themed ‘Empowering Local for Global Sustainability’ will showcase the diverse halal industry in Malaysia, including food and beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, education, e-commerce and digitalisation, tourism, fashion, shariah compliance, Islamic finance, and being Muslim-friendly.

Khairul said by taking the advantages Malaysia has with its matured halal ecosystem, Malaysia Halal Expo 2023 can become the enabler to support government initiatives to turn Malaysia into the centre for a global distribution network and facilitate the exportation of Malaysia halal products.

He said he is also targeting to draw 30,000 visitors to the expo which will take place at Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC).
