KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 – Volunteers are giving a helping hand to flood victims grappling with problems such as power failures and water shortages.
The Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has been on the ground to help people affected by the floods in Johor, said MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
He said the most affected areas in Johor were Chaah and Labis, citing households that were facing problems with power failure and a lack of food and water.
A team of about 60 volunteers from GoCare and CRSM are helping out, he added.
“Our volunteers are mobilising more people to help affected families with the clean-up work and to deliver supplies to them,” he said after launching the BeWithYou Community Caring campaign.
Chong said teams from Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka had already arrived at the affected areas.
“Four boats have been dispatched as well,” he said.
He said there were questions from the grassroots as to whether MCA still had the resources to help after losing in the general election.
“No matter what, we at CRSM will not stop. We have helped people in need in Pahang, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang and Selangor. We will continue to help people in need,” said Chong.
CRSM and GoCare charity are determined to foster a more caring society while creating greater awareness about underprivileged communities.
This is being done through community services.
GoCare will carry out several charity events, such as charity food trucks, GoCare Bazaar and charity sales.
GoCare and CRSM’s objective is to raise RM300,000 for a series of events and disaster relief campaigns.
At yesterday’s event, Nano Medic Sdn Bhd announced it was partnering with GoCare for a health screening programme.
CRSM national chief Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly and secretary-general Ng Sing Ping, Nano Medic Care product and technology support officer Esun Lim and executive director Desmond Lee were also present at the event.
