MELAKA, March 14 — The Melaka government is targeting revenue to reach RM23.48 billion for the tourism sector in the state next year, especially in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY 2024) with the expected arrival of 18.7 million domestic and foreign tourists, the Melaka state legislative assembly was told today.
Tourism, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis said apart from this, he said visitor overnight stay in the state, via the organisation of VMY 2024, is expected to increase to four nights.
“We want this state to be one of the destinations of choice of both domestic and international tourists by introducing new tourism products in Melaka.
“We also want to encourage the local community in the tourism industry by promoting homestays and local handicrafts, in addition to contributing to the improvement of small and medium enterprises,” he said in response to an oral question from Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar (BN-Rim), who wanted to know about the state government’s preparations in conjunction with VMY 2024, at the 15th state assembly sitting at Kompleks Seri Negeri here today.
He said besides this, the state government will introduce ‘Mana Lagi? Melakalah’ (Where Else? Melaka of Course) as the new slogan to promote Melaka in conjunction with VYM 2024.
Muhammad Jailani also said the pre-launch of VMY 2024 at the international level will be in June this year while the pre-launch of the regional level VMY 2024 will be held on May 26-28 in Surabaya, Indonesia.
“The soft launch of VMY 2024 at the state level will be held on Dec 31 at Taman Seribu Bunga, Ayer Keroh in conjunction with Fiesta Melaka 2023,” he added.
