KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — The Embassy of France in Malaysia marked the 500 days countdown to the 2024 Paris Olympics with the ‘Relay Around The World’ sports event, today.
Students from over 40 nationalities participated in a range of activities, including swimming, running and wheelchair basketball at the French School of Kuala Lumpur, here.
Ambassador of France to Malaysia Axel Cruau in statement said, the event is aimed at promoting the Olympic spirit and its values throughout the world.
He also underlined the importance given by the International Olympic Committee to place the Olympics and Paralympic Games on the same level, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who was the guest of honour, stated Malaysia’s ambition to win the first Olympic gold, and emphasised the government’s efforts to strengthen sports activities among Malaysian youth.
The Olympic Games is set to return to the French capital after 100 years, when Paris hosts the 2024 Games from July 26 to Aug 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from Aug 28 to Sept 8.
Paris had hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924.
Around 10,500 athletes from over 200 countries are expected to compete in 329 events hosted in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
