KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Twenty three ministries have completed the debate on the motion of thanks to the royal address over two days from yesterday at Dewan Negara.
Questions raised by the 38 senators in the debate since last week, were answered by ministers or deputy ministers and the replies were well received.
Among the focus is the issue of unity with the Ministry of Unity informing that there is no need to enact new laws in order to maintain unity and harmony of the country so far.
Dewan Negara was also informed of existing laws such as the Sedition Act 1948 and various subsections including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which is sufficient to ensure racial harmony and unity remain preserved among the people.
Meanwhile, Communications and Digital Ministry stated that as of the fourth quarter of last year, the percentage of 4G coverage in populated areas in Sarawak was at 87.12 per cent.
In the ministry’s efforts to provide good communication services in Sarawak, a total of 90,840 premises have been provided with fibre optic connections for landline broadband, while the remaining 24,447 are in the implementation stage and 3,546 communication transmitters have been upgraded to 4G technology, while the remaining 43 are in the implementation phase.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said the implementation of PrEP (Pre-Exposure prophylaxis) medication for free at 18 MoH facilities was done as an effort to reduce the percentage of sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV.
The use of the PrEP is said to be 90 per cent effective in preventing HIV from spreading, thus reducing the rate of HIV infection to innocent individuals such as spouses, wives or children.
