KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) is discussing plans to merge the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) as a measure to strengthen cyber security in the country.
Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the merger of the two agencies would help with the setting up of the proposed Malaysian Cyber Security Commission.
“We are having an in-depth and advanced discussion about merging NACSA and CSM but we have not reached the stage where it can happen yet.
“This is because we need to table it to Parliament but this (merger) is one of several things we need to do to ensure that the people’s data is safe and cannot be stolen or misused by scammers,” he said after attending the Media Appreciation Night here today.
Meanwhile, Fahmi reminded the public who want to withdraw money for Aidilfitri expenses to be careful if they receive any unknown or suspicious calls.
“Victims of a scam is urged to call the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 because if this phone call is made within a few hours, provided there is a transaction, Insya-Allah Bank Negara can cooperate with the banks to prevent money from being withdrawn,” he said.
Ahead of National Journalists Day (HAWANA) which will be celebrated on May 28 in Ipoh, Perak, Fahmi said he wanted media representatives to have discussions among themselves about the future of the industry in this country.
He has also asked his deputy Teo Nie Ching to review several policies to ensure the rights, welfare and freedom of the media are protected.
