Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Friday urged efforts to build a more just and reasonable international financial order during his meeting with Dilma Vana Rousseff, the newly elected President of the New Development Bank (NDB).

The two met in Shanghai on the sidelines of the Lanting Forum on Chinese Modernization and the World.

Qin congratulated Rousseff on her appointment as President of the NDB, noting that the bank represents the historical trend of the collective rise of emerging markets and developing countries.

The Chinese foreign minister believed that under the leadership of President Rousseff, the NDB will better respond to the voices of developing countries and give full play to its role as a multilateral development financial institution.

Qin also voiced the hope that the NDB would actively participate in the Global Development Initiative and make greater contributions to promoting solidarity and cooperation among developing countries, achieving common development, improving global governance, and establishing a more just and reasonable international financial order.

He said, as the host country of the bank, China is willing to work closely with the bank and provide support as well as assistance to President Rousseff in her duties and the operation of the NDB.

While stressing the achievements of Chinese modernization which have set an example for developing countries, Rousseff said NDB can play an important role in changing the unjust international order, building a better world to practice multilateralism and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

NDB is willing to work closely with China, she added.
