KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today hinted that Barisan Nasional (BN) will get a significant number of seats in the upcoming six state elections.
“I am very confident, God willing we will finalise the distribution of seats (soon), and God willing we will get the seats we deserve,” he said during his winding-up speech at the 2023 UMNO General Assembly at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here, today.
Ahmad Zahid also announced that the Malay education fund he launched during the assembly had managed to collect RM1.6 million so far.
“I would like to announce that all ministers and deputy ministers representing UMNO have agreed to and signed a one-month salary cut (to contribute to the fund),” he said.
Later during a press conference, Ahmad Zahid said that UMNO branches and divisions would continue collecting contributions, and expected the fund to gather up to RM2.5 million.
Earlier, UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan during his winding-up speech said the party leadership had a great responsibility to protect UMNO for the benefit of future generations.
He said UMNO was like a big ‘tree’ that gave shelter and protection.
“Let’s leave the seeds so that they will flourish for people to take shelter from the rain and heat. This big tree is also very fruitful, and many people need this tree, so let’s not cut down this tree,” he said while urging UMNO members to stop the infighting.
