KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has secured the position of Malaysia’s number one private university, based on the ASEAN in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023.
UTP, in a statement today, said it is a historic milestone for the nation’s higher education as the university leaped 32 spots, advancing from 95th position in last year’s ranking to an impressive 63rd this year.
In the same statement, UTP vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said the accomplishment reflects UTP’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, impactful research and innovation, and creating an exceptional student experience as well as continuing to uphold high standards as to make a lasting impact in the global academic and research arena.
“We are extremely proud of UTP’s significant rise in the THE Asia University Rankings 2023. This achievement is a testament to the steadfast dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff and students. Furthermore, we are deeply grateful to Petronas and our partners as this accomplishment has been made possible because of their relentless and continuous support,” he said.
Mohamed Ibrahim said UTP remains committed to nurturing future leaders, driving innovation and promoting sustainability, and their continuous pursuit of excellence will contribute to the development of highly skilled graduates equipped to make a significant impact on the local and global stages.
“As part of our aspiration towards sustainable global prominence, we will continue to support Petronas’ energy transition initiatives to move towards Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE) by 2050,” he added.
