TUMPAT, June 26 — The Works Ministry (KKR) has allocated RM30 million to rebuild sections of the East-West Highway in Perak and it is expected to start this year.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the ministry had earlier faced a shortage of between RM80 to RM100 to implement the reconstruction of the route.
“The reconstruction of the entire route will need between RM80 to RM100 million. As we have obtained RM30 million allocation, we will carry out the reconstruction at some sections of the highway.
“The details on the locations and length involved from Jeli to Gerik have not been finalised,” he said at the launch of construction for the flyover from Kota Bahru across the Wakaf Bharu roundabout to Pengkalan Kubor in Wakaf Bharu, here today which was also attended by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.
The media had earlier reported that the replacement of the structure on the East-West Highway costing RM80 million as among the matters discussed between the Perak government delegation with the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the problem needed quick action as the condition of the road is worrying users of the highway.
