ARAFAH, June 27 — Muslims in the country have been urged to leave their ego or the feeling of self-importance behind.
While delivering a sermon in conjunction with the Wukuf Day (the peak of the Haj pilgrimage) today, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said they should be humble and fully devote themselves to Allah SWT.
“Discard the feeling of arrogance and conceit in us. Do not feel that we are much better, more noble and bigger than other people.
“Be reminded that this attitude of self-importance turned the devil and shaitan into His disobedient creatures when they refused to prostrate to Prophet Adam AS,” he said.
He said that by wearing only two pieces of white, plain cloth, the pilgrimage teaches the worshippers to acknowledge their shortcomings and weaknesses and that all humans are equal before Allah SWT, adding wealth, position and looks are inconsequential as ‘taqwa’ (piety) is the only criterion by which Allah judges humans.
“When we return (to Malaysia), we will return with a new spirit to continue to be His pious servants, and live a new chapter of life that is pure from sins and misdeeds,” he said.
The pilgrims then performed the Zohor and Asar prayers after the sermon followed by talbiah recitation (an invocation of a conviction that the pilgrimage is performed only for the glory of Allah) and zikr (mentioning of Allah SWT).
Earlier, Mohd Na’im visited the Malaysian pilgrims’ tents and spent time getting acquainted with the pilgrims.
Malaysia is allocated a Haj quota of 31,600 pilgrims for this 1444 Hijrah Haj season.
