IPOH Aug 12 — Lianyungang is the latest city from China to establish “Friendship City” ties with Ipoh.
This relationship would benefit both cities in many sectors, Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said on Saturday (Aug 12).
“The collaboration includes… the economy, trading, culture, tourism and education.
“The (joint) discussions will include the state Economic Planning Unit, Tourism Perak, Invest Perak, Perak State Development Corporation and Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” he said after signing the letter of intent with Lianyungang mayor Xing Zhengjun at the city council headquarters here on Saturday (Aug 12).
In April, Rumaizi had announced a friendship city with Dalian but this has yet to be finalised.
In April 2005, then Ipoh mayor Datuk Hassan Nawawi Abd Rahman signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a friendship city with then deputy mayor of Nanning, Xiao Yingzi, in Kuala Lumpur.
Rumaizi said the relationship with Lianyungan would create many job opportunities.
“We hope that the friendship will benefit the citizens of both in areas such as job opportunities in tourism, science and technology, sports, health and education,” he said.
