JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 5 — The proposal for a special lane for voters living or working in Singapore to come and vote in the Parliamentary seat and State Assembly seat by-elections in Pulai and Simpang Jeram will only be decided after receiving feedback from the authorities involved.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he was briefed by the party’s election machinery about feedback from Johorians working in Singapore and who need to cross the causeway or not to vote on Sept 9.
“Tomorrow afternoon I will be in Singapore to meet and listen to voters who are involved in the by-election. I will meet and hear from them,” he told reporters after attending an election campaign talk for the Pulai Parliamentary by-election in Taman Anggerik tonight.
Saifuddin said for the time being, the government’s decision remains as status quo (no special lane for the by-elections) on Sept 9.
Earlier, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Pulai Parliamentary constituency Suhaizan Kat had made an appeal to the Immigration Department to open a special lane at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar CIQ and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) in Iskandar Puteri, on Sept 9.
The by-elections for the Pulai Parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state assembly seat are held due to the demise of incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who was also the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living on July 23.
The Election Commission had set the date for polling as Sept 9 for both by-elections.
