KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Md Mansur has been reappointed as vice-chancellor (VC) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for a two-year period, effective Oct 3, 2023 to Oct 2, 2025.
In a statement today, the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) said Kasim first assumed the position on Oct 3, 2022.
“He has a Business Administration degree and Master’s Degree in Economics from the Indiana State University, Terra Haute, in the United States (US), and a Doctorate (PhD) in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, US.
“Under his leadership, UMS has successfully been placed in the 55th place of the Asian University Rankings 2023 and is ranked between the best 251-260 universities in Asia in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023,” the statement read.
MoHE said with Kasim’s reappointment as VC, the ministry hopes UMS will continue to strengthen its position as one of the best comprehensive universities in Malaysia, and will continue to contribute to Sabah’s development through the university’s academic and research activities.
“He is a respected academic figure in Sabah and has shown excellent performance in implementing various initiatives that have successfully boosted the reputation of UMS at the national and international level,” added the statement.
