KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has once again made its mark on the global stage, reaching new heights in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024, rising to the 301-350 band from its previous position of the 401-500 band.

With this accomplishment, UTP has achieved remarkable progress and maintained its position as Malaysia’s leading private university and the second among Malaysian universities.

UTP vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, in a statement today, expressed his pride in the university’s significant rise in the rankings.

He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to Petronas, the university’s academic and industry partners, as well as the staff and students, for their unwavering support, dedication, and commitment.

“This accomplishment serves as a testament to our unwavering dedication to advancing academic excellence, nurturing pioneering research, and enhancing the overall student experience.

“These endeavours are all part of our continuous journey to establish ourselves as a globally prominent and sustainable institution,” he said.

Mohamed Ibrahim added that the university actively supports Petronas’ vision for a sustainable future by aligning with its energy transition initiatives.

“UTP is actively involved in efforts to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE) by 2050. Through our research initiatives and academic programmes, we aim to develop sustainable solutions and cultivate environmentally conscious leaders who can contribute to a greener and more sustainable world,” he said.
