KUCHING, Oct 27 — Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg congratulated the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on his election as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, today.
Abang Johari also welcomed Sultan Ibrahim to explore Sarawak and meet its people.
He said the people of the state would also be pleased if Sultan Ibrahim agreed to choose the Land of the Hornbills as one of the main destinations to visit during his reign as the Agong which begins Jan 31, 2024.
“We Sarawakians obey the King so we express gratitude over the appointment of the Sultan of Johor as the Agong,” he said when met by reporters here today.
Earlier today, Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad in a statement said that the election of Sultan Ibrahim as Yang di-Pertuan Agong for five years was made at the 263rd (Special) Meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara, today.
Sultan Ibrahim will replace Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah who ends his reign on Jan 30 next year.
The meeting also elected the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the same period.
