MELAKA, Nov 9 — The global level launch of Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) was held in London in conjunction with the World Travel Market (WTM) 2023 from Nov 6 to today.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who was leading the state government delegation to WTM2023, jointly launched the campaign together with Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman and the Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Datuk Zakri Jaafar.
“WTM2023 is one of the biggest tourism exhibitions in the world held at ExCel London. Participation in the exhibition marks an important milestone in promoting Melaka as a leading tourist destination in the world,” according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office today.
The statement said the year-long TMM2024 campaign will feature several special events, promotions and initiatives designed to woo tourists and visitors from around the globe to Melaka.
“Various activities including cultural performances, art exhibitions, music festivals and gastronomy fairs will be held to showcase Melaka’s culture and heritage.
“Cooperation with travel agencies and tour operators will make travel to Melaka easier and more affordable,” it said.
The statement also said five cooperation agreements were exchanged at WTM2023 to establish cooperation in promoting the tourism industry, especially ‘inbound’ tourism to Melaka.
They involved Melaka-based Bel Travel & Tours and travel agents TravelShop Turkey (Turkiye), Akbar Travel (India), Viet Experience Travel (Vietnam), Jane DMC Korea (South Korea) and Arabian Journey (the United Arab Emirates).
“These agreements signify their commitment to cooperation to improve Melaka’s position as a leading tourist destination. This is in addition to utilising the expertise and networks of each party to promote tourism in the state and to foster closer relations between Malaysia, Turkiye, India, Vietnam, South Korea and the UAE in the field of tourism,” added the statement.
