KUANTAN, Nov 17 — Community colleges are ready to collaborate with various parties, including state governments, in implementing programmes aimed at developing and improving the lives of local communities, said Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said this was in line with the unique and strategic role of the existence of the community college, which is as an institution that provides lifelong learning, while its position in the community allows it to have the power to change the lives of the community through the mastery of knowledge and skills.
“It is also an institution that has no boundaries and no limits when it comes to the programmes it wants to offer to the respective communities. With such characteristics, it can be used by various parties as an instrument to empower the community with an approach that is suitable for the local community.
“This is something that can be explored together and the ministry will provide all support to ensure that these colleges can run well in the successful dissemination and mastery of knowledge to improve the standard of our society,” he said.
Mohamed Khaled said this at the presentation of the appointment letter of the Pahang Community College Advisory Committee (JPENKK) chairman here today, which was also attended by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
So far, there are 105 community colleges nationwide, with 10 of them in Pahang and Mohamed Khaled said an allocation of RM50,000 will be given to each community college from next year for the implementation of programmes to empower local communities.
He also said that another community college would be established in Pahang, namely in Jelai in the Lipis district.
