TAWAU, Dec 16 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail expressed condolences to the family of a teenager who died after he was believed to have been hit by a car driven by a senior police officer in Ipoh, Perak, yesterday.

He said police had made an arrest and opened an investigation paper.

“Allow the police to carry out their duties until the investigation is completed.  At the appropriate time when all processes are completed, I believe the police force will provide updates on the status and next step.

“I believe the police will carry out their duties with full responsibility and professionalism following the law,” he told reporters after meeting the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) personnel, here today.

The 17-year-old male student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jati was killed after his motorcycle was reportedly hit from behind by a car driven by the 44-year-old suspect.

Meanwhile, he said the upgrading of 151 General Operations Force (PGA) security posts from Perlis to Sabah is progressing well after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim approved an allocation of RM45 million in June specifically to expedite the upgrading works.

Saifuddin Nasution said there was a proposal to build PGA security posts on the east coast of Sabah, but has yet to be finalised.

He also praised the management of Tawau IPD for implementing 16 upgrading projects involving its facilities worth RM3 million and finishing them on time this year.

“As we step into 2024, Tawau IPD, which comprises 11 blocks for officers and members, is proposed to undergo several facility upgrades, including upgrading its surau to a mosque,” he added.
