KLANG, Dec 24 — The proposed elections for local authorities must ensure a win-win situation for all races, said Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
Mohamad, who is also the Agriculture and Food Security Minister said further discussions and in-depth studies should be conducted to ensure that all races are satisfied and feel secure with the implementation of the elections.
“If chosen by the people, one must work diligently in the interests of the people, not the party. It is necessary to win the people’s hearts and ensure that no one is left behind,” he said in his winding-up speech at the National Amanah Leadership Committee in conjunction with the National Amanah Convention 2023, here, today.
The proposal regained attention after the Federal Territory DAP chairman and Cheras Member of Parliament Tan Kok Wai, presented it to strengthen democracy in the Federal Territory during its convention recently.
Meanwhile, Mohamad said he believed that the component parties forming the Unity Government could secure the four states held by the opposition in the next General Election (GE).
He said this was based on his observation that the Unity Government has managed to regain the support of civil servants, adding that support from the component parties under Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional will also strengthen the coalition.
“We practise political moderation. I believe our unity will thrive, so in the 16th GE, the Unity Government will return to govern (the country) in style,” he added.
Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis are under the Perikatan Nasional rule.
