KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia is being sued by McDonald’s Malaysia for allegedly defaming the company.

BDS Malaysia, in a statement shared on X, said they had received a writ of summons from McDonald’s Malaysia, who had claimed their businesses had suffered, putting their blame on the non-governmental organisation (NGO).

“We categorically deny this. We have therefore decided to let the court decide on the matter.

“BDS Malaysia has engaged the services of legal firm Raja Riza and Associates.

“After consulting with our lawyers, we will issue a more detailed statement,” they said.

BDS Malaysia is a registered NGO which calls on the Malaysian public, organisations and the government to boycott Israel and organisations that are complicit with Israeli atrocities towards Palestinians.

The Israeli attacks on Palestine since Oct 7 had ignited a global wave of boycotts against Israeli goods, as well as international brands with alleged Zionist links.

The local call for boycotting such products was done through social media, providing netizens with comprehensive lists.

Apart from McDonald’s, they include many household names such as KFC, Starbucks, and fashion brand Zara.
