Kuala Lumpur Jan 10: The Cabinet has agreed to transfer Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and CyberSecurity Malaysia from the communications ministry to the newly established digital ministry.

Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil also said the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) will be under the supervision of the digital ministry.

He added that CyberSecurity Malaysia, which was previously under the Prime Minister’s Office, will be rebranded.

Fahmi also said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will remain under his ministry.

The communications and digital ministry was split into two by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a Cabinet reshuffle last month, with Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo tasked with helming the digital ministry.

Fahmi, who also serves as the government spokesman, said Mimos Bhd was moved back to the science, technology and innovation ministry (Mosti) from the Prime Minister’s Office.

“However, the MyDigital ID function will remain temporarily under the Prime Minister’s Office. It will be managed by the digital ministry after March,” he said during a press conference here.

Mimos is the agency in charge of the MyDigital ID project, which serves as a digital self-identification and authentication tool meant to verify user identities in online transactions.

Fahmi also announced that the irrigation and drainage department (JPS) will be transferred to the energy transition and public utilities ministry from the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Green Technology And Climate Change Corporation will remain under the purview of the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry.

The natural resources, environment and climate change ministry was split into the energy transition and public utilities ministry and the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry during the Dec 12 reshuffle.

Fahmi also said the Cabinet had condemned those behind the fire at Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s home this morning which damaged three of the DAP man’s vehicles.

Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri said police were tracking down those responsible for the fire at Ngeh’s home in Ayer Tawar, Perak, adding that a Molotov cocktail was discovered at the scene.

Ngeh said he suspected the incident was sparked by a statement he issued on Dec 28 suggesting that non-Muslim constitutional experts be appointed to the committee reviewing the jurisdiction of shariah courts according to the Federal Constitution.

His proposal was criticised by various quarters, with PAS and Bersatu leaders accusing him of interfering in Islamic affairs.
