JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 13 – The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) will further enhance the programme to revitalise mosques and host a ‘semarak subuh’ programme for Fajr prayers this year.

Deputy Minister Dr Zulkifli Hasan said various beneficial programmes will be organised to make mosques the main hub for the Muslim community.

He encourages and supports any efforts towards this purpose, such as the ‘Geng Subuh Macam Jumaat’ movement that invites congregants to perform the Fajr prayers in mosques instead of at home, initiated by celebrity Alif Satar, as well as the Johor government’s initiative to host the ‘semarak subuh’ programme.

“At the ministry level, we strongly encourage and support movements or initiatives for the community’s well-being.

“We see how a celebrity like Alif Satar can attract a large crowd to perform the Fajr prayers.  So, we welcome anyone who can do the same because this is part of preaching, and it is important for it to be continuous,” he told reporters after handing over contributions to flood victims in Kampung Sungai Tiram, on Saturday.

He was asked about whether the government has plans to organise similar programmes.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli said 200 flood-hit households in Johor are being provided with initial assistance with an allocation of RM50,000.

“In addition to daily necessities, volunteers from the Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) and relevant agencies have been mobilised to affected areas,” he said.
