ROME, Feb 17 – Israel should not attack Rafah, said Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Friday, reported the Anadolu Agency.
Tajani held a news conference after he landed in Germany late Friday to attend the 60th Munich Security Conference.
He said foreign ministers of G7 countries will hold their first meeting on Saturday under the Italian presidency as part of the conference.
Tajani stressed that G7 countries could move towards a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for the release of hostages.
Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since October. The Israeli attack has killed at least 28,775, injured more than 68,552 others, and caused mass destruction and shortages of necessities.
The Israeli war on Gaza has pushed 85 per cent of the territory’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60 per cent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the United Nations.
An interim ruling by the International Court of Justice in January had ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
