SERI ISKANDAR, March 20 – The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah graced the opening ceremony of the Bandar Universiti Mosque here Wednesday.

His Royal Highness arrived at 7 pm and was greeted by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and several state government executive council members

Sultan Nazrin planted a Bunga Tanjung tree and inaugurated the mosque before the ceremony continued with the recitation of prayers and verses from the Qur’an.

His Royal Highness also participated in the ‘tahlil’ ceremony before breaking the fast with more than 800 congregants.

Sultan Nazrin then performed the Maghrib prayer and attended the dinner ceremony before performing the Isyak and Tarawih prayers in congregation before leaving at 9.40 pm.

According to the JAIPk’s Mosque Management Division, the Bandar Universiti Mosque built over 2.55 acres and can accommodate 1,200 worshipers took about two years to construct and was completed in July 2018.

The mosque also received the Five Star Hamam Award on May 15, 2019, for ensuring the mosque’s external and internal facilities were always kept neat, clean, and safe.

Additionally, on Nov 10, 2019, the mosque, known as the Green Mosque, received the National Green Neighbourhood Award for the green initiatives provided in the mosque and the surrounding community.
