SEREMBAN, April 17 – Several low-lying areas here were hit by flash floods following a three-hour downpour late Tuesday (April 16) evening, the Star reported.
Among the areas affected were along Sg Linggi in Ampangan, Rasah, Rahang and Mambau.
Checks showed that water levels rose between one and three feet in Kg Ismail, Kg Semarak, Kg Singh, Blok B & C Ampangan, Kg Jiboi, Taman Happy, Kg Batu 3, Kg Kuala Sawah and Angsana Batu 5.
Some low-lying areas in Titian Bintangor in Kota, Rembau were also affected.
As of 10pm, there were no evacuees as water levels had begun receding.
A Kg Singh resident Darshan Singh said it started raining just before 6pm.
“The flood waters rose so fast that we had to seek help from friends by sending them messages in WhatsApp groups.
“We are sick and tired of these floods and hope the authorities can look for a permanent solution,” he said.
Darshan said floods used to be a perennial problem in Kg Singh but this stopped about two years ago after the state government authorised contractors to dig a section of Sg Linggi near Rasah.
He said heavy rains in recent days may have caused debris to be deposited along the stretch causing water levels to rise again.
“The water level along Sg Linggi had reached dangerous levels the past three days but today it burst its banks,” he added.
