PUTRAJAYA, May 10 – Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh has retired as Election Commission (EC) chairman after four years at the helm.
His compulsory retirement took effect on Thursday (May 9).
The EC, in a statement on Friday (May 10), said Abdul Ghani had held the position since August 2020.
Previously, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali had said that Abdul Ghani would hold the position as chairman until the age of 66.
Abdul Ghani had previously announced that he would retire on May 9.
In addition to serving in the EC, Abdul Ghani also held several positions including Kuala Langat District Council chairman, Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) corporate planning and community development department director and Gombak district officer.
