JAKARTA,  May 17 – Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto, has promised not to adopt a military-style approach in his leadership, stating that it is no longer relevant.

“I will be myself, sincerely,” Prabowo was quoted as saying by the local news portal MetroTVNews when answering moderator questions in a plenary session at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha recently.

Prabowo, who is a former special forces commander and the current Defence Minister, said he left the military world more than 25 years ago.

As a leader, he pledged to uphold the principles, values, and aspirations of a patriot by striving to bring prosperity to the people.

“My people must be safe, free from hunger, and deserve a better life,” he emphasised.

On March 20, the General Election Commission of the republic announced Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the official winners of the presidential and vice-presidential election for the 2024-2029 term.

Prabowo will replace President Joko Widodo, who will complete his second and final term in office in October.
