PHNOM PENH, May 30 – Cambodia has called on its entrepreneurs to promote their products internationally through e-commerce platforms like China’s Alibaba, according to Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce.
She revealed that Cambodia will launch a national pavilion on Alibaba.com in September on the sidelines of the 21st China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Expo in Nanning, south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
In her speech at a seminar on “Beyond borders: bringing Cambodian products to the global market through Alibaba.com”, Nimul emphasized the enormous potential of China’s e-commerce platform, pointing out that it will provide Cambodian businesses significant opportunities to showcase their products to wide range of international buyers and increase their exports.
Currently, several Cambodian specialty products, such as pepper and edible bird’s nests, have been put up for sale. A representative from Alibaba attending the meeting stated that the platform will open the door to the global market for Cambodian SMEs and entrepreneurs.
In October 2023, the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alibaba to sell local products to China and global markets through the eWTP platform, aiming to rapidly develop the country’s e-commerce industry.
