KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 – Former Malaysian ambassador to the Netherlands Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin died on Thursday at the age of 76.
Noor Farida, one of the co-founders of the G25 group of prominent retired civil servants, breathed her last at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The news of Noor Farida’s passing was confirmed by G25 executive secretary Jasmine Zulkifli.
“I’ve just been informed by her family that our Noor Farida has just passed away.
“Her family will bring her to Masjid Kg Baru once the arrangements have been made,” she said in a short message.
Meanwhile, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman and Star Media Group advisor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai said he was deeply saddened by the demise of Noor Farida.
Describing Noor Farida as a friend and fellow moderate, Wong said Malaysia has lost a voice of reason and conscience.
“She would always speak up for a moderate Malaysia,” he said.
A G25 member, former Sungai Benut Member of Parliament Mohamed Tawfik Ismail, said Noor Farida was a credible lawyer, judge and ambassador.
“Her death is a huge loss to G25. My condolences to the entire family,” he said.
Mohamed Tawfik, who is the eldest son of former Deputy Prime Minister, the late Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, said Noor Farida was also among those who had been vocal in fighting for women’s rights in the public service.
