SHIZUOKA (Japan), June 27 – Three people were found unconscious in an area near the crater of Mount Fuji in central Japan, Kyodo news agency reported police said on Wednesday.

Rescue efforts are continuing for the three individuals discovered on the Shizuoka Prefecture side of the 3,776-metre mountain, which also straddles Yamanashi Prefecture.

The three were found after a rescue team began a search for a man in his 50s from Tokyo, who went missing after going to climb the mountain on Friday night.

His family made an emergency call at around 6 am on Sunday.

Designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2013, Japan’s highest peak is a popular tourist destination.
