KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 – The Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) has agreed to accept the offer by the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) to host the inaugural Asia Cup Sepaktakraw Championship next year.

PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said a few things, however, needed to be refined.

”Among them are funds and the calendar because next year is expected to be full of major tournaments including the Bangkok SEA Games, the Tun Ali Cup and the Sepak Takraw League (STL) and possibly other tournaments,” he said.

He was met after the supreme committee meeting of PSM yesterday.

Mohd Sumali said the association will hold further discussions with ASTAF to determine the date for the championship while taking into account the views of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the Sports Commissioner (PJS).

“We will decide later whether to continue with the Asia Cup or give way to other tournaments first,” he said.

Previously, a statement issued by ASTAF president Datuk Abdul Halim Kader stated that the ASTAF Supreme Committee meeting unanimously agreed to appoint Malaysia as the host of the  Asia Cup Sepaktakraw Championship.

This is based on several factors, including its success in hosting of the World Cup Championship held last May.
