KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 – A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale was detected near Bonin Islands, Japan Region, at 4.01 am Monday.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department, in a statement, said the quake occurred 871km south of Hamamatsu, Japan, at a depth of 567 km.

“No tsunami threat to Malaysia,” it said.
