WASHINGTON, July 19 – Former United States (US) President Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican Party’s nomination as its presidential candidate in his first speech since surviving an attempted assassination.
“Tonight, with faith and devotion, I proudly accept your nomination for president of the United States,” Anadolu Agency (AA) quoted Trump as saying on Thursday during his speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America,” he said.
A lone 20-year-old gunman opened fire on Trump during the campaign rally, striking him in his right ear and critically injuring two rallygoers and killing a third.
Authorities have yet to determine a motive in the assassination attempt. They identified the suspected shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks.
