BANGKOK, Aug 3 – President To Lam has been elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, reported Sputnik, citing Vietnam News Agency.
To Lam became the third leader of the country after the founder of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, to simultaneously hold the top party and state positions in Vietnam.
Speaking at the press conference, Lam said he will inherit and uphold the revolutionary achievements made by late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong who passed away on July 19, and previous generations of leaders, according to Xinhua news agency.
To Lam, born on July 10, 1957, in Vietnam’s northern Hung Yen province, has served at the Public Security Ministry for a long time.
On May 22, 2024, the 15th National Assembly elected him as Vietnam’s president for a tenure till 2026.
