MIRI, Aug 11 – The Sarawak Gold (SG1) pineapple variety is expected to be exhibited at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2024 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from Sept 11 to 22.
MAHA secretariat head Zurihanmi Zakariya said this SG1 has great potential and can be marketed both domestically and internationally.
“The Sarawak government, under the leadership of Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has shown a deep interest in the agricultural sector, with the hope that the positive impact of this event will be felt not only in Sarawak but throughout Malaysia,” he said when met by reporters at the Mini MAHA Carnival here.
Zurihanmi said for MAHA 2024, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) aims to increase the number of exhibitors from Sarawak compared to the previous year.
“Currently, the MAHA 2024 secretariat is carrying out the process of selecting exhibitors from all over the country to ensure that only the best quality exhibitors will be participating in this event.
“We hope that MAHA 2024 will be a significant platform to promote the agriculture and animal husbandry sector as well as to raise awareness of the potential of local products at the national and international levels,” he said.
He said the Road to MAHA@Sarawak tour started in Brunei on Thursday, then moved to Lawas and ended in Miri today.
“This tour is very special because apart from focusing on Sarawak, we are also touring Brunei by inviting its Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism to participate in MAHA 2024,” he said.
