KINABATANGAN, Aug 18 – The Council for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) will be established by early next year in Sabah, says Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohd Ariffin Mohd Arif.

He said the establishment of the council was important to empower the implementation of the TVET programme and fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the state.

“At the moment we (the ministry) are preparing papers to submit to the state cabinet so that Sabah will have a Sabah State TVET Council by the beginning of next year.

“We already have a Sabah State Science Committee, and we will drive these two committees to empower TVET and STEM in the state,” he said after completing the inauguration of the Sabah state-level STEM and TVET Education Fair on Saturday.

Mohd Ariffin said the Sabah TVET Council would be composed of representatives from the Sabah State Education Department, Sabah Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Universiti Malaysia Sabah as well as eminent figures and experts in TVET.
