MIRI, Aug 21 – The city of Miri is ready and open to be the venue for several sports if Sarawak co-hosts the 2027 SEA Games, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said the city has the potential to host some sports based on observations at several venues currently involved in organising the 2024 Malaysian Games (SUKMA).

A total of six sports were contested in Miri, namely karate, fencing, sailing, pencak silat, rugby and softball at the biennial event.

“In Miri, I found good and complete equipment not only in the Miri Indoor Stadium but in some other places, it appears that Miri is sufficiently ready to host a bigger tournament.

“This has been proven by SUKMA. If we host the SEA Games, of course we can hold some events in Miri,” he said after visiting the pencak silat venue at the Miri City Stadium, on Wednesday.

Earlier Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state is ready to co-host the 2027 SEA Games and suggested that the opening ceremony be held in Land of the Hornbills.
