PUTRAJAYA, Sept 9 – Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will embark on an official visit to Turkmenistan from Sept 9 to 10 to further cement diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said Mohamad is scheduled to pay a courtesy call to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

He will also deliver a letter of invitation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for Berdimuhamedov to undertake an official visit to Malaysia in December 2024.

“In Ashgabat, the foreign minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Vice President and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, to discuss economic relations, education, tourism, and technical cooperation between the two countries,” the statement read.

In 2023, Turkmenistan was Malaysia’s fourth-largest trading partner among Central Asian countries, with a total trade value of RM48.62 million (US$10.57 million).
