KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 – A new monkeypox (mpox) case has been detected, says the Health Ministry.
It said in a statement that the patient is a male citizen who began showing symptoms of fever, sore throat, and cough on Sept 11, while rashes appeared on Sept 12.
“The patient has no history of international travel within 21 days before the onset of symptoms, is currently in isolation, and is in a stable condition,” said the ministry.
It added that the contacts of this patient are being identified, and their health status will be monitored according to the current strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Out of the 58 suspected mpox cases referred to the ministry this year, one (1) case has been confirmed positive for mpox clade II on Sept 16. As such, all 10 cases in Malaysia from July 26 last year to the present are only from clade II,” said the ministry.
