ISTANBUL, Sept 23 – National People’s Power Party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake Monday took oath as Sri Lanka’s new president, Anadolu Agency reported.
He is the ninth executive president of the island nation.
The Marxist-leaning Sinhalese politician defeated outgoing President Ranil Wickremesinghe and opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
Dissanayaka secured more than 5.74 million votes, representing 55.89 percent of the valid votes, in the weekend run-off presidential elections defeating Sajith Premadasa.
