BEIJING, Sept 25 – The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Wednesday launched an intercontinental ballistic missile carrying a “dummy warhead” into the Pacific Ocean, China’s Defence Ministry said, reported German news agency (dpa).

The PLA’s Rocket Force launched the missile at 8.44 am (0044 GMT), the ministry in Beijing said, adding that it “fell into expected sea areas”.

“This test launch is a routine arrangement in our annual training plan. It is in line with international law and international practice,” the ministry said.

The missile test was not directed against any country or specific target, explained spokesman Zhang Xiaogang.

The aim of the launch was to test the performance of the weapons and military training. The ministry did not provide any further details on the type of missile and the specific area of the test.
